Comprehensive topography characterization of polycrystalline diamond coatings

چکیده
Abstract The surface topography of diamond coatings strongly affects properties such as adhesion, friction, wear, and biocompatibility. However, the understanding multi-scale topography, its effect on properties, has been hindered by conventional measurement methods, which capture only a single length scale. Here, four different polycrystalline are characterized using transmission electron microscopy to assess roughness down sub-nanometer Then these measurements combined, power spectral density (PSD), with methods (stylus profilometry atomic force microscopy) characterize all scales topography. results demonstrate critical importance measuring across scales, especially because their PSDs cross over one another, that is rougher at larger scale may be smoother smaller vice versa. Furthermore, reveal connection between grain size, characteristic scaling behavior slightly below mean self-affine fractal-like other scales. At small (subgrain) unpolished surfaces exhibit common form residual in nature but difficult detect methods. This approach capturing from atomic- macro-scale termed comprehensive characterization , data made available for further analysis experimentalists theoreticians. Scientifically, this investigation identified regions materials.

Diamond and Polycrystalline Diamond for MEMSApplications :
To date most of the MEMS devices are been based on Silicon. This is due to the technological know-how accumulated on manipulating, machining, manufacturing of Silicon. However, only very few devices involve moving parts. This is because of the rapid wear arising from high friction in these Silicon based systems. Recent tribometric experiments carried out by Gardos on Silicon and polycrystalline...
متن کاملSynthesis and Characterization of Multilayered Diamond Coatings for Biomedical Implants
With incredible hardness and excellent wear-resistance, nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) coatings are gaining interest in the biomedical community as articulating surfaces of structural implant devices. The focus of this study was to deposit multilayered diamond coatings of alternating NCD and microcrystalline diamond (MCD) layers on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surfaces using microwave plasma chemical vapor d...
متن کاملPolycrystalline diamond films as prospective UV photocathodes
Polycrystalline diamond films grown by chemical vapor deposition have been considered recently for a number of UV detection applications. Negative electron affinity, chemical and mechanical stability and relative ease of fabrication make such films attractive candidates for effective and stable UV photoconverters. In this paper we present our study of the absolute quantum efficiency of a thin f...

متن کاملCharacterization of B-doped polycrystalline diamond films using thermally stimulated luminescence
The effect of different rates of boron incorporation during the growth in diamond on the thermoluminescence (TL) features of this material is investigated. TL studies performed between liquid nitrogen temperature (LNT) and 320 K show some phosphorescence and two other peaks at 226 and 266 K. For the first time, boron level in polycrystalline diamond films was identified by TL by an intense glow...
